Scrub GPS Data From Your Digital Photos

(source: popscy.com)
In recent news, John McAfee, was accused of killing a neighbor of his.  Claiming innocence and fear that authorities in Belize would attempt to extort him for money and "shake him down" in a manner that may be violent.  Just a couple of days ago, he was apprehended and extradited to the United States (current en route).

Did you know how he was caught?  A reporter accidentally posted a photo of him with embedded EXIF (Exchangeable Image file Format) data.  EXIF is a standard that specifies the formats for images, sound, and ancillary tags used by digital cameras (including smartphones), scanners and other systems handling image and sound files recorded by digital cameras; (source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exchangeable_image_file_format)  Originally, I read an article posted by Popular Science that mentioned a couple of tools to pull the data from digital photos, but I soon found another tutorial utilizing the Linux CLI (much better) that I'd recommend my smart readers read :) ->  http://hacktux.com/read/remove/exif

The article was written with RedHat users in mind, but the tools used can be found very easily for other distributions or built from source as well.
